Equipment elements for picnic sites in Münsterland

Introduction

Picnic sites with features such as wave loungers, photo frames, or seating areas contribute significantly to enriching the visitor experience in Münsterland and creating unforgettable moments. As part of the ERDF project “Schlösser- und Burgenregion Münsterland” such elements were developed in a consistent Münsterland design to enhance the quality of the visitor experience along the 100 Castles Route. The aim was to make the brand identity of Münsterland visible, to strengthen the region as an attractive tourism, leisure and living region and to make the attitude towards “The Good Life” tangible.

Design

The design concept for picnic sites in the Münsterland region combines functionality, sustainability, and brand identity. The distinctive, slanted profiles reflect the core values of the region – community-minded, ambitious, energetic, judicious, and close to nature. All modules are robust, timeless, accessible, and easy to install on point foundations without the need for extensive groundwork. The Münsterland region’s closeness to nature is reflected in the use of warm wood. All metal parts are made of powder-coated stainless steel. By avoiding the environmentally harmful galvanization of steel, we are contributing to sustainable production while also increasing the longevity of the elements.

Development

After winning the tender in 2021, the modules were developed in close cooperation with Schräder Metallverarbeitung GmbH. Together, the idea, design, and functionality were gradually developed and optimized. The collaboration enabled a targeted development of all elements – from the initial draft to production readiness. The result is a modular, robust and brand-compliant equipment system that meets the highest standards of design, quality and everyday suitability.

Modules

Modernly designed modules ensure special moments at the picnic site. The ergonomic table-bench combination is sturdy, barrier-free, and wheelchair accessible. Generous photo frames with wooden framing create a natural atmosphere for souvenir photos.

Various picnic platforms and seating areas allow for flexible sitting, lying, or leaning. Wave loungers and swing sets offer additional experiences. Optional sun protection and the extension to a shelter increase comfort.

The offering is complemented by solutions for charging cell phones, secure bicycle parking, lockers, and a repair station with a frost-proof air pump. The modular system can be adapted to any space – for a special picnic experience for young and old.

Implementation

In the summer of 2022, many picnic sites in the Münsterland region were furnished with the newly developed equipment and opened to the public. Since then, these places have been available to locals and visitors, inviting them to linger, relax, and enjoy themselves. The high-quality and carefully designed modules make the picnic a special experience and bring the Münsterland lifestyle into the public space.
