Bicycle parking Vienna

Task

Innovative bicycle parking solutions for urban areas: The challenge from the city of Vienna. The City of Vienna has launched a challenge as part of a market research project to address the question of how higher-quality, space-efficient, safe and easy-to-use bicycle parking facilities can be implemented in urban areas.

The aim is to find new concepts that meet the requirements of modern urban mobility. The jury evaluated the submissions based on criteria including urban-compatible land use and design, quality and safety of the facilities, user-friendliness, functional modularity, accessibility, and scalability.

Design

The reduced formal language of our design specifically refers to the urban environment and blends harmoniously into the existing cityscape. Materials such as steel profiles, wood, glass or perforated sheet metal ensure a high-quality, robust design. Green roofs are planned throughout and make an ecological contribution. The facilities are designed to be barrier-free and safe. A striking canopy or a strip as a “common thread” links the design to existing mobility stations and creates recognition in public spaces.

Module catalog for urban infrastructure

The module catalog offers a flexible selection of elements – from simple benches and open bicycle shelters to fully automated bicycle towers with up to 110 parking spaces. The modules are functional, modularly combinable and designed to match each other. This creates a consistent, scalable solution for different requirements in public spaces.

Project draft

We are delighted to be among the five winners of the challenge initiated by the City of Vienna to develop innovative bicycle parking solutions. Our design impressed the jury and demonstrated how a comprehensive solution — from a simple bicycle hangar to a fully automated bicycle tower — can be implemented.

Our product design forms the basis for a consistent, recognizable corporate architecture throughout the entire city area. In addition to design quality, the focus was also on economic feasibility and a user-friendly digital booking system. This creates a flexible, scalable solution for secure and convenient bicycle parking in urban areas.
