Idea and concept
Under a car bridge in the immediate proximity of the main train station was a publicly accessible but neglected square. Bicycles had already been parked there previously, which led to a rather confusing overall appearance and potential safety problems.
Due to its central location, the available space, and the natural weather protection, this site was ideal for the construction of a bicycle parking facility. An organized, secure parking facility not only increases the attractiveness of the location, but also makes an important contribution to promoting cycling. In addition, the enhancement of the area through design transforms a place that was previously perceived negatively into a functional and urbanistically meaningful area.

Development phase
In several iterative steps in close consultation with the client, a design and functional solution for the planned bicycle parking facility under the car bridge was developed. The aim was to create a structured, secure, and architecturally appealing facility for this special location. Various facade variants were examined, with particular attention being paid to integration into the urban environment and the choice of materials. The material mix of perforated sheet metal and colored glass that was ultimately chosen combines transparency, robustness, and design quality. The bicycle parking facility is designed as a two-level structure in order to maximize parking capacity in a limited space. The bicycle parking facility offers space for 152 bicycles.
Implementation
Thanks to its modular design, the system was able to be constructed and implemented in a short period of time. The chosen design enabled efficient and precise implementation on site, with minimal disruption to the existing infrastructure. The proportions, structure, and choice of materials are specifically tailored to the unique location under the bridge. They blend harmoniously into their surroundings and help to enhance the design and functionality of this previously underused space. The design language can be transferred to future projects within the region, thereby creating a distinctive corporate design for the Bike&Ride service offered by the city of Achim and the surrounding region.
